Every Saturday morning a street market is held in Puerto Banus and Nueva Andalucia. The main section of the market is centred around Centro Plaza in Nueva Andalucia and runs down to the roundabout, some other stalls selling antiques and crafts can be found along Avenida Jose Banus, in Puerto Banus itself.
The market sells an incredible range of things; around the bullring you’ll find some intriguing antiques stalls, whilst the majority of the remaining pitches are dedicated to clothes, leather goods, rugs and carpets, fresh fruit and vegetables, electrical goods and general nick-nacks, as well as some stalls selling plants and flowers for the home and garden.
Parking near to the market can be a nightmare. From around 11am the streets are clogged with traffic. The best advice is to park slightly away and walk the last part of the journey. The streets around the market operate a “voluntary” parking fee on market days, it’s not uncommon to be accosted as you get out from the car by a man in a luminous jacket waving a ticket, you should expect to pay 1-2 euros.
There are several good cafes and bars around the market area, if the midday heat gets too much. You can sit in the sun at one of the cafes around Centro Plaza or try an excellent pastry at La Tahoma. (on the bank of shops just by the turn onto the A-7)
In recent years there have been a few isolated thefts from cars on market days, so be sure not to leave valuables on view. Once out of the car be aware of your bags as pickpockets have been known to operate in this area.
