The Fuengirola Town Hall has recently acquired a total of 150 organic household waste containers to substitute those already in use in the municipality. These new containers hold 1,100 litres of organic waste, and have cost the Fuengirola Cleaning Delegation approximately 36,000 euros.
“The new containers will replace others located above ground, given that the old ones cannot be placed in certain areas, such as very narrow streets,” said the Town Hall’s Cleaning Delegation councillor, Ana Mata. “In this way, old containers in a bad state of repair can be replaced, while the new containers will look better on the streets of the town.” Mata warned that all household rubbish thrown out must be placed in bags tied closed, and that waste liquids cannot be thrown into rubbish bins, given that they produce foul smells.
At the moment, there are 1,515 organic waste containers in the municipality, 1,000 of which have been installed below ground on so-called ecological islands.
