The foreign community is gaining more and more weight within the Estepona job market. Almost three out of every ten contracts signed in December were for employees from outside Spain. Among them workers from outside the European Union are a majority. However, the rate of recruitment is also falling in the case of foreign workers, with 28 per cent fewer new contracts signed in December than November. The main occupation of foreign employees is within the construction industry and in other unqualified positions. The number of foreigners registered as unemployed in the municipality of Estepona has increased by seven per cent to 1,873, according to the statistics from the Andalusian Employment service.
