Torre del Mar sets up bust of Blas Infante, the instigator of regional Andalusian identity
Friday, 04 March, 2005.

A. P.

An original sculpture, made of olive wood and plaster, was commissioned in 1991 by the present Deputy Mayor with the responsibility of Torre del Mar, Manuel Rincón, from sculptor Francisco Martín in order to donate it to Vélez-Málaga Town Hall. The council had agreed two years previously to put up a bust of Blas Infante, the instigator of regional Andalusian identity.

A bronze replica of that bust which had previously been installed in the school named after the so-called “Father of Andalusian Identity”, was set up 15 years later, at 1 p.m. last Monday, Andalucía Day, in the central area of the seafront promenade (opposite the area for parking at the end of Calle del Mar). The statue depicts Blas Infante with his pet fox, called Dimas, found when it was a cub. The municipal band played during the officially inauguration of the work of art.
