A round-up of gossip, personalities, social events...

Jewish community

The official launch of the Estepona Jewish Community was held on 16th March at The Crown Plaza Hotel in Estepona and it took the form of a ‘Tea Party’ attended by approximately 100 people. Visitors were welcomed by Gerry Crest, one of the organisers, and Rabbi Cheski Goldstein and everyone was most enthusiastic about having a series of social events as well as Shabbat services and, in the near future, having a permanent synagogue in the area. All Jewish newcomers and visitors are welcome to the new community and further information is available by sending an e-mail to: esteponajcom@btinternet.com.

Zoological trip

The International Zoological Society has arranged a nature spotting trip to Torremuelle on Monday 31st March. They are meeting at the train station in Arroyo de la Miel at 11 a.m. sharp. Those who go along should wear comfortable clothes and shoes as there is some walking. The price is 12 euros for members and 15 euros for non-members which includes return train fare, a snack on the trip and a three course lunch plus drinks. For more info call Eric Needham on 691117844.

Easter bonnets

A wonderful time was had parents and children at The International School Estepona’s annual Easter Bonnet Parade. The Director, Gillian Godbold, said that the standard had been higher than ever this year and this could be seen by the effort of Presley Scott Johnson and Robert Plum (both 6) with their incredible double bonnet. More pictures can be seen on the school’s website: www.marbellaschool.com.

Age Concern

As in previous years Age Concern will have a stand at the International Party of Estepona at the Palacio de Congresos in the town on Sunday 6th April. The stand will be selling home made produce, sandwiches, teas and coffees. In order to make the day a success, and raise funds to support the work of volunteers, they need lots and lots of produce to sell. Help is also needed on the day to run the stall and join in the fun! To pledge help call Age Concern on 951318234, or e-mail: tonyaldous55@yahoo.co.uk.
