Andalucia´s rugged landscape provides some beautiful walking areas, mostly in mountanous regions such as Sierra Nevada, Las Alpujarras, the Sierra de Grazalema and other hill areas near Ronda. In some of these areas you can string together day walks into a trek over several days, sleeping in a variety of hostels, camp sites or occasionally mountain refuges or wild camping. Some of Andalucia´s many walkable trails are well signed with route numbers. On others just the odd spot of paint on a stone might tell tou your´re heading in the right direction. Elsewhere you are left entirely to your own devices. April to mid-June and September through to mid-October are generally the most pleasant times for walking, but conditions in Sierra Nevada are relitively easy only from July to early September. The weather in high mountains is unpredictable.
