There are two reasons to take a trip to Tarifa: to windsurf or to see the surfers. Both are exciting, even if tumbling down the fantastic dunes at Punta Paloma beach comes a close second. Or even just walking along this beach, preferably westwards for real adventure.
But the town itself makes a great visit too. The sights include the recently-restored 8th century Jerez Gate, the Arab Castle of Guzman El Bueno,the Municipal Museum and the La Alameda gardens. Close by the gardens is the old fishing port, where you can walk. You can walk or drive down the causeway called Muelle de Rivera towards the island, Isla de las Palomas, to reach the southwest tip of Spain - the equivalent of Land's End. |
