Sotogrande International School, established in 1978, offers day and boarding education from three-eighteen years of age, and is convalidated by the UK and Spanish authorities. It is situated in the centre of the residential and leisure complex of Sotogrande. It offers a programme of studies from 3-18 based on the English National Curriculum.
The school is divided into First, Middle and Upper sections. GCSE courses are taken in Year 11 and in Y12 and Y13 the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is offered. The school is developing new teaching and learning strategies. Accelerated learning, an holistic approach, and a thematic curriculum are already being pioneered in the classroom, producing measurable advances in student achievement. Results at public examinations are good. Along with the school’s diverse extra-curricular activities, the Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, information technology and expressive arts across the curriculum, a strong sporting tradition, and adult education classes are all offered.
In September 2001 the school transferred to its new home, a modern, purpose-built learning centre situated in a wooded area with views of the surrounding countryside and the Mediterranean. The architect-designed buildings have been developed to embody the school’s philosophy of child-centred education and as a community centre of learning. |
